Aviation Specialist Program

Greenwood College Specialist Aviation Program is a Department of Education approved specialist program, designed for students who are serious about aviation.
Exciting and challenging, the program prepares students for a rewarding future in aviation. From learning to fly fixed-wing aeroplanes and helicopters to connecting with the Aviation Industry, this in-depth program is perfect for students with a genuine interest in aviation.
Prospective students must submit a written application and sit an academic aptitude test. Acceptance into the Aviation program is for four years from Year 7 to 10.
What to expect
Year 7
The first year of the program gives each child strong foundational knowledge. They will learn:
Introduction to Aerodynamics
Introduction to Rocketry and Rocketry design
Year 10
In year 10, students continue to study aeroplanes while beginning to look at different types of aircraft. They will learn:
Helicopters
Aircraft at war
Year 8
In year 8 students will discover different aircraft and their environments. They will learn:
Structure of the aircraft
The aircraft and its environment
Year 11 and Year 12
During the final two years of the program, students will start to prepare for a career or further study with in-depth learnings. They will learn:
Aerodynamics
Performance and Operation
Human factors
Aviation Development
Year 9
Students will get one step closer to flying an actual aircraft with insight into mechanics and flight simulations. They will learn:
Power to fly
Mechanics of Flight
Enrolments and Entry Requirements
To secure a place in the program, students should be able to demonstrate:
A genuine interest in aviation
Satisfactory academic performance in English and Mathematics
Personal qualities, behaviour and attitude that are consistent with maximum participation in the program.

Our aviation students got to meet the CHC team, hear about their roles within CHC, ask questions and get a close look at the helicopter. The CHC team shared their career stories into aviation, demonstrating there are many pathsways in.
